Title: Moving On from Twitter: My Journey to Digital Freedom
Written on
Chapter 1: A New Chapter Begins
This morning, I made a significant decision: I erased my Twitter account, bidding farewell to my 8,000 followers. There’s no turning back now.
When I initially joined Twitter, it was just before I launched my self-hosted WordPress blog, aiming to share my writing with a broader audience. I invested considerable time and energy into building my account, and the results were rewarding.
Although I was relatively new to the writing community, I was quite familiar with the Twitter landscape. In high school, I managed a fan account for a celebrity, which equipped me with skills to engage and connect with others effectively.
Active participation and interaction with like-minded individuals have always been my strategy on social media. This approach greatly contributed to my growth over the years. Within a year, I amassed thousands of followers, reaching a peak of over 8,000—despite being inactive for several months.
However, I find myself at a crossroads. My enthusiasm for social media has waned, and I no longer see the value in aimlessly scrolling through my feed. The drive to promote myself feels burdensome now.
The only platform I actively engage with is Medium. Even Instagram, once my favorite, has lost its charm. While I intend to keep my account out of hope for future engagement, my time with Twitter has come to a close.
I deleted my Twitter account this morning and refuse to dwell on it any longer. Continuing to force myself into the social media world merely drags me back into old habits of mindless scrolling. I'm ready to move forward.
