Unexplained Triangular Lights in Canadian Skies: A Pilot's Tale
Written on
Chapter 1: Mysterious Lights Over Canada
In the early hours of January 19, several pilots reported witnessing an array of triangular lights soaring high over the Canadian Prairies. This unusual event has sparked considerable curiosity and speculation.
These accounts originate from audio recordings gathered by CTVNews.ca, revealing diverse opinions among the pilots regarding the nature of these lights.
Section 1.1: The Initial Observations
One pilot flying over Thunder Bay proposed that the lights might be satellites. However, this explanation was quickly challenged by other aviators. An Air Canada pilot, en route from Seattle to Winnipeg, observed that the lights moved laterally, scattered, and then reformed into triangular shapes, noting, “It didn’t look like anything in orbit.” Crew members on a Flair Airlines flight from Vancouver to Toronto corroborated these observations, describing around six lights flying erratically in formation.
Subsection 1.1.1: A Cargo Pilot's Perspective
A pilot from Morningstar Air Express, who was traveling from Calgary to Toronto, firmly rejected the satellite theory, stating, “They’re not like any satellite I’ve ever encountered. I’ve been flying at night for 15 years, and this is completely different.” The audio recordings from over two and a half hours of air traffic communication, archived by LiveATC.net, provided a detailed account of the pilots' experiences.
Section 1.2: Air Traffic Control's Confusion
The recorded conversations occurred between approximately 4:20 a.m. and 6 a.m. CST, and have been edited for brevity. An air traffic controller expressed bewilderment, remarking, “There’s no active airspace or military operations in that region. Frankly, I’m at a loss for what these could be.” At least four aircraft reported witnessing the phenomenon that morning, including flights operated by Flair, Morningstar, and two Air Canada flights.
Chapter 2: Heightened Security Concerns
The first video titled "Several pilots see unexplained lights over Central Canada | Your Morning" captures the essence of these sightings and includes pilots' accounts discussing their experiences with the mysterious lights.
The second video, "Air traffic control audio: Pilots report 'triangles' over Canadian prairies on Jan. 19, 2024," provides air traffic control recordings that reveal the confusion and concern surrounding these sightings.
The pilots estimated that the lights were located well above their altitude, potentially reaching heights of up to 30,000 meters, far exceeding the operational limits of most fighter jets. In response, Nav Canada air traffic controllers alerted the Canadian Air Defense Sector in North Bay, Ontario, part of Norad, the joint Canada-U.S. defense organization that monitors the northern approaches to the continent.
