Exploring the World of Podcasts: A Freelancer's Journey

Written on

Chapter 1: The Shift from Writing to Podcasting

Initially, I contemplated penning a book titled "I'm a Freelancer, That's How I Feel." I even managed to draft a few chapters. However, my perspective changed when I noticed a new "podcasts" icon on VK. I quickly immersed myself in this platform.

Within just a week, I had recorded seven episodes for my series titled "Psychology of Freelancing." While my pace slowed afterward, my enthusiasm remained intact.

As someone who learns best through auditory means, I find great joy in speaking—much like any trainer or psychologist. This passion, combined with my knowledge of the subject matter, fueled my commitment to this format.

My podcasts are unique; I engage the audience without needing guests. Here are some of my guiding principles:

  • I opted for brevity—each episode lasts between 10 to 15 minutes, perfect for a coffee break.
  • I maintain a brisk recording pace and avoid unnecessary musical interludes, focusing on the topic right from the start.
  • While I share personal stories, I always strive to derive universal insights that resonate with a broader audience.
  • Though podcasting isn't my primary focus, I view it as a branding effort. I write each episode in one go, outlining a brief plan. If a recording doesn’t feel right after two or three attempts, I set it aside to revisit later. Thus, I limit my recording time to a maximum of 30 minutes for a 15-minute episode.

Establishing consistent principles and frameworks enhances the channel's recognizability, increasing the likelihood of attracting listeners. Variations are welcome, but consistency is key.

My initial podcasts received an enthusiastic response, and VK has since become my home base. I even received comments like, "You must have signed up right after Durov!" Although interest waned over time, a dedicated audience began to form, drawn to my specific topics and style.

Section 1.1: Engaging with the Audience

To foster engagement, I utilized surveys to gauge interest, offering various topic options and honestly addressing the most popular choices in my podcasts.

I also successfully promoted my podcasts on Facebook and Instagram, platforms that typically don’t support audio content. Podcasts have a remarkable ability to spark conversation and evoke emotions, often being shared more than written narratives.

Moreover, podcasting is a time-saver; articulating thoughts verbally is far quicker than writing them down.

Chapter 2: The Evolution of My Podcasting Journey

In this video titled "What is a podcast? How do I Listen to Podcasts? How are Podcasts made?" you will discover the basics of podcasting, how to engage with this medium, and the production process behind creating compelling audio content.

The second video, "What is a podcast?", provides an overview of what podcasts are and how they fit into the broader media landscape, making it an essential watch for anyone interested in this format.
