Maximizing Your College Experience: A Journey to Success

Chapter 1: My College Journey
In May 2024, I proudly received my Master of Science in Journalism from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. Prior to that, in May 2022, I completed my undergraduate studies there, earning a bachelor's degree in journalism along with minors in political science and history.
My time in college was incredibly fulfilling, albeit sometimes stressful. Here’s how I thrived academically while also enjoying life:
Section 1.1: Explore Classes Beyond Your Major
While it's essential to enjoy your primary field of study, it’s also beneficial to branch out. I took a variety of courses that were not strictly aligned with my major.
During my time at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, I majored in journalism, but my academic pursuits didn’t end there. Among my most enjoyable classes were the history of the Big Ten and a creative writing course, both of which provided a refreshing change of pace.
Consider enrolling in classes like art history, horseback riding, ice skating, sculpting, astronomy, or nutrition. Discover what excites you and take those courses. That’s exactly what I did.

Section 1.2: Follow Your Interests
College is a unique opportunity to explore your interests. Select a major that resonates with you, and engage in clubs and activities that align with your hobbies.
Diving into your passions during college is a fantastic way to discover yourself and what truly captivates you. For me, writing became my primary focus, but I also pursued my interests in sports and music.
Find what resonates with you and pursue it wholeheartedly.

Chapter 2: Building Lasting Friendships
Section 2.1: The Importance of Genuine Connections
While having friends is essential, forming deep and meaningful friendships is even more significant. Seek out your community and nurture those relationships.
True friends will share in your laughter, support you in tough times, and enhance your college experience. I forged some of my closest friendships during my college years—who would have thought that this environment would be the backdrop for such lasting bonds?
Section 2.2: Final Reflections on College Life
College is a remarkable chapter in life.
Start making the most of it now, just as I did. I embraced every moment, and I hope you will too. You will be grateful for the experiences you accumulate along the way.
Onward to new adventures!
