Your mindset serves as your most valuable asset, influencing your actions and shaping the potential futures that lie ahead. Mastering your mindset is crucial if you aspire to achieve greater success and fulfillment.
There are times when life feels overwhelming, and we encounter challenges more often than we'd like. I can certainly relate to this feeling. After losing my mother, I felt disoriented. I had relied heavily on her insights and support, and each morning, I was reminded of the void her absence created. While it wasn’t the same as losing my husband, the emotional weight was still profoundly heavy.
I recognized the need for an internal reset, prompting me to reflect on what I truly desired. Initially, I wished for my mother to return, but I soon understood that this was not how life operates.
A common misconception is that simply imagining something makes it attainable. However, reality is more nuanced. It's true that altering your mindset can transform your experiences, but this change is not magical. For a desire to manifest, it must align with nature. For instance, wishing to be taller when you are short is unrealistic, just as longing to see a deceased loved one again is.
Since I couldn’t physically bring my mother back, I pondered what else I yearned for.
American designer Nate Berkus once said after losing his partner:
"You can either remain stuck in grief or choose to live your life fully because being stuck is a double tragedy."
This became my goal: to celebrate my life vibrantly in honor of my mother—a notion she would have cherished.
Section 1.1: Letting Go of Overthinking Feelings
At first glance, it may seem odd, but we often find it simpler to think about our feelings rather than actually experiencing them. I could identify my emotions but struggled to confront them head-on. As Berkus indicated, I didn’t want to endure two tragedies in my life, so I committed to shifting my mindset.
If we avoid our feelings, they linger and intensify, negatively impacting our health and well-being. We might resort to temporary fixes like indulging in sweets or binge-watching shows, which only serve to mask the underlying issues.
I dedicated myself to embracing my emotions, allowing myself to genuinely feel sadness and loss instead of merely contemplating them. This process wasn’t easy in the moment, but it was essential for my long-term well-being.
This mindset shift is applicable beyond grief; it can be utilized in various life situations. Each phase of life brings new challenges, whether they be heartache, anxiety, or scarcity. Acknowledging feelings—even when uncomfortable—can lead to a sense of relief and allows you to continue living passionately.
Subsection 1.1.1: Embracing Blue Sky Thinking
"Blue sky thinking" is a term often used in business to describe having an open mind during strategic discussions. This concept resonated with me long before I encountered the phrase.
Years ago, as I contemplated sharing my insights on practical spirituality, I hesitated, feeling unqualified and overwhelmed by the vastness of knowledge still to be acquired. While this sentiment is valid, it is also a continuous reality—there is always more to learn.
Eventually, I realized that by underestimating my capabilities, I was confining myself with self-imposed limitations. This mindset was unacceptable, necessitating a shift.
To engage in blue sky thinking, envision a life without limits. Visualize your ideal future and immerse yourself in that feeling. Hear the supportive words from friends and family, and refuse to settle for anything less than your grandest dreams. The more you practice this mindset, the more compelled you will feel to take actions that align with your aspirations.
My journey led me to create a website in 2011 and author six books, all stemming from this liberating perspective.
Section 1.2: Balancing External Distractions and Internal Focus
In our daily lives, we often find ourselves distracted by the outside world. These distractions can be so commonplace that we hardly notice them anymore. However, our conscious mind absorbs everything around us and communicates these impressions to our subconscious, influencing our ability to manifest our desires.
Consider the impact of outer distractions—social media, negative news, and chronic complainers—on your life. These influences can hinder your progress toward achieving what you truly want.
When I finally acknowledged this, I was both surprised and disheartened by how many distractions consumed my attention. No wonder it was difficult to attract what I desired while surrounded by negativity.
I chose to adopt an inner-directed approach, focusing on what genuinely uplifted me. While it’s impossible to devote every moment to this practice, I prioritized feeding my mind with positivity and reducing external distractions.
The transformation was remarkable and significantly enhanced my success and happiness.
