Thriving in Writing: My Journey from Struggle to Success

Chapter 1: The Long Road to Growth
My last six months have been transformative: I skyrocketed my Medium followers from 6,600 to 23,000, increased my email subscribers from 450 to 2,134, launched two digital products, and grew my monthly income from under $1,000 to between $5,000 and $6,000. This represents an astonishing 400% growth across nearly every area.
However, prior to this success, I spent about 4.5 years in a state of mediocrity. Here’s how I managed to keep going.

Section 1.1: Embracing Patience in Writing
Writing online is a long-term commitment. If you're aiming for success, be prepared to invest 3 to 5 years before noticing significant results. I've observed the journeys of accomplished writers on Medium, and they all share a similar trajectory: Tim Denning took 8 years, Ayo 7 years, Niharika 4 years, Eve Arnold 3 years, and Scott Stockdale 3 years.
It's essential to address your ignorance with time; while you can speed up the process with financial investment, time remains crucial. I've seen many talented writers fade away, yet I've managed to surpass many simply by persisting. It's not about being more skilled; I just refuse to quit, and I have no intention of stopping.
Section 1.2: The Joy of Writing
Initially, I never envisioned transforming my writing into a business. Yet, writing cultivates invaluable skills such as copywriting, marketing, persuasion, storytelling, and sales—all foundational for a successful solo venture.
If I had started with a business mindset, I doubt I would have enjoyed the journey as much, and writing likely wouldn’t have passed the initial business viability tests. My motivation stemmed purely from the pleasure of writing, and that enjoyment is what kept me engaged. Today, I monetize my skills through ghostwriting, digital marketing, and coaching services.
Subsection 1.2.1: The Power of Passion
We often hear the saying, "The man who loves walking will walk further than the man who loves the destination." While it may sound clichéd, it's undeniably true. My passion for writing is so profound that I cannot imagine stopping.
Even if you were to strip away my audience and any monetization opportunities, I would still write. It's an essential part of who I am. Writing provides me with a sense of liberation, clarity, and relief; it's rare for me to go a day without it, regardless of the occasion.
Chapter 2: The Impact of Technology on Writing

Section 2.2: Writing as a Foundational Skill
It took me a while to understand this, but mastering writing is pivotal for all aspects of life. Regular writing hones your clarity of thought, boosts public speaking skills, and fosters emotional intelligence through self-reflection.
From a business standpoint, writing permeates all forms of content—from YouTube scripts to social media posts and sales copy. Everything revolves around the power of words. Together with exercise and reading, writing becomes a critical skill that enhances every area of your life, with persuasive writing offering the highest leverage.
Section 2.3: Building Connections for Success
If I could restart my journey, I would prioritize finding a community of creators and hiring a coach earlier. These two elements can significantly accelerate your growth.
Having a supportive community can alleviate feelings of loneliness and confusion, while a coach offers guidance tailored to your current stage of development. Both resources can drastically shorten your learning curve. Just as top athletes rely on their coaches and communities, we should do the same without letting ego get in the way.
The outcome? I've experienced more growth in the past month than I did in three years combined. It's incredible, and I plan to immerse myself even further in this environment in 2024.
