# The Truth Behind the Absence of Stars in Moon Photos

Chapter 1: Understanding Lunar Photography
Why is it that photographs taken on the Moon do not display stars? Many interpret this absence as compelling evidence for conspiracy theories surrounding lunar landings. However, this notion is unfounded. The reality lies in a different explanation: stars simply weren't meant to be captured in those images.

Was the lunar landing conducted during the daytime or nighttime? The photographs exhibit a pitch-black sky. On Earth, such a view typically occurs at night, leading many to assume the Moon landings took place after sunset. In contrast, the blue sky on Earth is a result of sunlight scattering in our atmosphere, which is absent on the Moon, resulting in a black sky even during the day. This is further evidenced by the brightly illuminated lunar surface visible in the photographs.
Why can’t we spot any stars? The explanation is straightforward: the cameras used were not configured to capture the faint light emitted by stars. As previously mentioned, the lunar surface was well-lit by sunlight at the time of photography. To illustrate, try taking a picture of a brightly lit object against a starry backdrop here on Earth; without adjusting your camera settings, you won’t see any stars.
In this photograph of New York at night, the stars are also missing due to camera settings. To capture stars, one would typically need to use a longer shutter speed and widen the aperture, allowing more light to enter the camera from dim sources like stars. However, this would result in overexposure of well-lit objects in the frame.
On the Moon, capturing the surface was the priority.

It is logical that the cameras were set up to focus on the Moon rather than the stars, explaining the absence of stars in the photographs taken by astronauts during their moonwalks. Therefore, if stars had appeared in these images, it could suggest a deliberate attempt at deception, but since they don't exist in the photos, such claims hold no weight.
