Urban Sun: A Beacon of Hope and Innovation for Tomorrow

Chapter 1: The Vision of Urban Sun
The Urban Sun concept, envisioned by designer Daan Roosegaarde, epitomizes the bold aspirations we need in today's world. In times of uncertainty, we require a beacon of hope—an active hope that inspires action and fosters innovation. Roosegaarde's Dutch design studio has developed an Urban Sun installation for public areas that emits a light frequency deemed safe for both skin and eyes, while effectively eliminating 99.9% of viruses.
“Daan Roosegaarde and his team of designers, external experts, and scientists challenged themselves to discover how the power of light can be used to combat viruses and therefore enhance our well-being. Research shows that though traditional 254nm UV light is harmful, the new far-UVC light with a wavelength of 222 nanometers can actually sanitise viruses safely.”

This initiative has gained support from the Dutch Council of the Public Health & Society Board, and the light's safety is validated by the Dutch National Metrology Institute VSL. The project complies with the safety standards set by the International Commission on Non-Ionizing Radiation Protection (ICNIRP).
“Studio Roosegaarde has been researching the power of light for many years. The self-funded URBAN SUN was begun in 2019. The COVID19 pandemic made the project much more urgent. URBAN SUN connects design with science to provide innovative solutions for people to meet in a more humane way.”

Light, an essential element of our planet, has potential that extends beyond mere illumination. The discovery of 222 nm UV light, which is safe for humans while effectively neutralizing viruses, is a testament to our ability to envision and engineer a brighter future.
As we navigate the path forward, it is crucial to remain focused on creating a regenerative future—healing the wounds of the past while striving for a better tomorrow for all beings.
Thanks to Daan Roosegaarde, I feel a renewed sense of hope and inspiration!
Section 1.1: An Invitation to Innovate
The challenge is clear: we must encourage technology and design enthusiasts to dream big. The world faces pressing human and environmental challenges, and innovative solutions are desperately needed.
Let's harness our creativity to transform the latest scientific discoveries into remarkable projects and products. By leveraging combinatorial innovation, we can ignite entrepreneurship and cultivate Blue Ocean markets where competition becomes irrelevant.
We are capable of achieving great things! Let’s take action!
